Claude Sonnet 4.6 Launches, Web Tools Reach GA & Infosys Partnership Announced — visual for 2026-02-17

🧭 Claude Sonnet 4.6 — Stronger Coding, Reasoning & Extended Context

Anthropic has launched Claude Sonnet 4.6, an updated mid-tier model that improves on its predecessor across coding, multi-step reasoning, and extended-context tasks. The model is available immediately via the API as claude-sonnet-4-6, in Claude.ai (Pro and above), and through Amazon Bedrock and Google Vertex AI. Pricing is unchanged from Sonnet 4.5: $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens.

Benchmark improvements over Sonnet 4.5

Anthropic describes Sonnet 4.6 as the recommended default for most production use cases — offering a balance of capability and cost that positions it above Haiku 4.5 for complex agentic workflows without the compute cost of Opus 4.6. Claude Code CLI and the VS Code extension have both been updated to use Sonnet 4.6 as the default model.

🧭 Web Search & Web Fetch Tools Reach GA — Plus Infosys Partnership

Alongside the Sonnet 4.6 launch, Anthropic has promoted the hosted web search and web fetch tools to general availability across all API tiers — including the free tier's API access level. Previously, these tools were restricted to selected partners and Bedrock customers during beta. With GA, any application can add a web_search_20260209 or web_fetch_20260209 tool definition to an API request and Claude will execute grounded web retrieval as part of its response.

Separately, Anthropic and Infosys have announced a strategic partnership covering enterprise deployments of Claude across Infosys' global client base. The agreement includes co-developed accelerators for finance, supply-chain, and customer-experience verticals, with Infosys engineers receiving early access to pre-release API features. Infosys joins Accenture, Deloitte, and McKinsey as a named delivery partner in Anthropic's enterprise go-to-market programme.
