🧭 Claude for Healthcare — HIPAA-Ready Platform Launched at JP Morgan Healthcare Conference
Anthropic has announced Claude for Healthcare at the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference (JPM26), a purpose-built platform for clinical and life-sciences organisations that brings HIPAA-ready infrastructure, native integrations with healthcare data standards, and partnerships with leading health system operators. The launch is reported by Fortune and FierceHealthcare as a direct response to the growing competitive pressure in AI-powered healthcare, with the timing coordinating with other major AI announcements at JPM26.
Platform features at launch
- HIPAA-ready infrastructure — Claude for Healthcare is available under a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) from Anthropic, enabling covered entities and business associates to deploy Claude in clinical contexts with appropriate HIPAA safeguards in place
- Clinical data integrations — native integrations with the CMS Coverage Database, ICD-10 code sets, and PubMed enable Claude to reason fluently over clinical coding and research literature within the same context window as patient case information
- Healthcare-specific safety calibration — Claude for Healthcare includes additional calibration for clinical contexts: conservative handling of diagnostic uncertainty, mandatory recommendation of professional consultation, and enhanced crisis response routing for mental health-adjacent conversations
- Launch partners — AstraZeneca, Sanofi, Banner Health, Flatiron Health, and Veeva Systems are among the initial healthcare and life-sciences partners deploying Claude for Healthcare at launch

🧭 HealthEx Partnership — Patients Can Now Query Their Medical Records in Plain Language
Alongside the Claude for Healthcare platform announcement, Anthropic has announced a partnership with HealthEx, a health data connectivity startup, to enable patients to connect their medical records from more than 50,000 health systems and hospitals in the US and ask Claude questions about their own health history in plain language. The integration, available in beta via the Claude.ai mobile app, allows users to ask questions like "What does this lab result mean?" or "What medications have I been prescribed in the last year?" with Claude drawing directly on the patient's verified health record data.
How the integration works
- Health record connectivity — HealthEx provides the data connectivity layer, pulling records from participating health systems via HL7 FHIR APIs; Claude receives structured patient record data as context rather than raw clinical documents
- Platform integrations — the service integrates with Apple Health and Android Health Connect (in beta), allowing patients who already aggregate their health data in their phone's health app to connect seamlessly
- Privacy model — health record data is not stored by Anthropic; it flows into Claude's context window for the session only, with patients retaining control over which record sets to share
Availability: The HealthEx integration is in beta and requires opt-in from the Claude.ai mobile app Settings → Connected Health Records. US coverage is broadest; international availability is limited at launch.
